How Change Happens

We're used to the idea that change happens from the inside-out. It sounds right. It speaks to the hard worker in us who relishes in the struggle, the one who takes a little too much pleasure in pointing out when we fall. What if it's the other way around?

What if becoming a better leader (teacher, parent, etc.) happens by shifting your focus from the impacts you want to have to the ones you already are?

Look at the faces of the people on your team. Listen to the fatigue in their voice. Wonder whether they are saying yes but meaning no.

Look for the most granular, nitty-gritty, hardest-to-admit answers.

Let them have their way with you.
